Water molecules have a very strong attraction to other water molecules, so they stick together really well. This is called cohesion. Water molecules can also stick to other materials, like string. This is called adhesion. This is why when you pour water down the string it sticks both to the string and to the water that's already sticking to the string! This could be a very helpful trick! What else could you do using string to transport water? What about catching the rain and sending it to your garden or your dog's water dish? Be careful if you try this trick at home, you wouldn’t want to spill all that water!
“Here’s how you can make your very own Distance Pouring Contraption!
1)Fill a measuring cup with water.
2) Place a piece of string or yarn over the handle of the measuring cup, then pick up the measuring cup.
3)With your other hand, hold the string over a bowl. Make sure that the string is always touching the measuring cup's pour-spout.
4)Slowly pour the water, and it will travel down the string and into the bowl! See how far away can you pour the water down the string.
